Terms of use
These terms apply to balancetransfercalculator.com and everything on it, including the calculator, the articles and the methodology page. Using the site means accepting them. Anyone who does not accept them can simply not use the site.
Educational use only
This site exists to show how balance transfer arithmetic works. It is general educational information about a type of financial product, published for a United States audience, and it is not advice about any individual's situation.
Not financial advice
Nothing here is financial, credit, tax, legal or accounting advice, and no relationship of adviser and client is created by using the site or by emailing it. The calculator's verdict is a comparison of two arithmetic paths given the numbers entered. It knows nothing about income, job security, other debts, household circumstances, credit history or plans, all of which matter more than the difference between two interest totals. Anyone who wants advice about their own position can speak to a nonprofit credit counselling agency or a licensed financial professional. Decisions made after reading this site are the reader's own.
Estimates come with no warranty
Results are estimates produced by a model. The model makes simplifying assumptions, all of them written out on the methodology page: how interest compounds, how payments are allocated, when the promotional clock starts, how long a transfer takes to post, and how the minimum payment is derived. Real accounts differ. Issuers use daily average balances, apply their own minimum payment formulas, may cap a transfer at a fraction of the credit limit, and may add fees or charges this model does not know about. Trailing interest, late fees, returned payments, changes to a variable rate and a promotional rate ending early after a serious delinquency can all move the real outcome away from the estimate.
The site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. Defaults and cited figures are believed correct on their stated retrieval dates and may be out of date by the time they are read.
Verify with the issuer
The card issuer's own current pricing and terms are the authority on every number that matters: the promotional length, the transfer fee, the rate that applies afterwards, the transfer window, any minimum fee, the credit limit granted and how much of it a transfer may use. Those figures are decided by the issuer and depend on the applicant. Checking them directly before acting is the reader's responsibility, and no figure on this site is a substitute for that.
Intellectual property
The text, design and content of this site belong to its operator. Reading it, printing it and sharing links to it are all fine, as is quoting a short passage with attribution and a link. Republishing pages or substantial extracts, or reproducing the site's content to build a competing product, requires permission by email. The calculation engine is published as open source in the site's public repository and is governed by the licence in that repository, not by this section. Regulatory citations, government data and the third-party studies referenced here remain the property of their own publishers.
Acceptable use
The site may not be used to break the law, to attack or overload the service, or to present its output to anyone else as personalised financial advice.
Limitation of liability
In plain terms: this is a free calculator, and the operator is not responsible for what anyone decides after using it. To the fullest extent the law allows, the site and its operator are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site or reliance on anything in it, including interest paid, fees charged, an application declined, an effect on a credit score, lost savings or any indirect or consequential loss. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount paid to use the site, which is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Third-party links
Links to regulators, government data sources and issuer documents are provided so that claims can be checked. Those sites are not controlled by this one, and their content and privacy practices are their own responsibility.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [State to be confirmed by the site owner], United States, without regard to conflict of law rules.
Changes
These terms may be updated. The last reviewed date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means accepting the updated terms. Questions go to [email protected]. See also the privacy policy and the advertiser disclosure.
